Declutter Your System By Turning Off License Features You Don’t Use

Posted by Author, Curator, Visually Impared Squirrel Literacy Advocate & Dynamics AX Technical Solution Professional (TSP) at Microsoft on

Dynamics AX is chock full of useful features, but you probably don’t need to use it all right away, and in some cases even through other people will need a particular feature you may never consider using it. Rather than having everything enabled within the system, you can use the license configuration tool to deactivate is so that it’s not showing up on the forms, and the menus. Later on if you find that you want to use the feature then you can always just turn it back on again.

Don’t be an extreme hoarder when it comes to ERP features.

How To Do It…

To do this, click on the License Configuration menu item within the Licensing folder of the Setup group within the System Administration area page.

When the License Configuration maintenance form is displayed, you will be able to see all of the different configuration options that are available within the system.

Tip: Before you continue on, just click on the Export To button and save your current configuration just in case you want to restore all of the features back to the same state that you currently have them in.

Now you can go through all of the different options, and turn off the features that you don’t need. If you want to be super simple, then just click on the Standard button to turn off all but the bare necessities.

After you have tidied up the license options, click on the OK button, and you will be asked to synchronize the database with the license files. This will go through all of the tables, and make any necessary adjustments for you.

You may want to get a coffee while this is running.

After the synchronization has completed, you will notice that there are not as many bells and whistles configured in the system. For example, by turning off the Catch Weight options, the sales order screen looks a lot more compact.

With all of the options turned on, there is a lot more columns available for you to hide.

Just as a side note, if you can’t kick the habit of turning on all of the features, then you can also feed your compulsive disorder by looking through the licensing file to see what options you are missing.

To make sure that you’re not missing out, you can enable some more features.

And like magic, you now have new features that you may not have known that you can take advantage of.
